This past weekend I celebrated my 10th wedding anniversary in Newport, RI with my husband Mark. Looking for beach chic with a touch of lux we chose The Inn at Castle Hill’s beach cottages. The newly refurbished cottages rest in the sand dunes of the inn’s private cove beach. The interiors of the cottages deliver high style with modern day amenities such as a jacuzzi spa tub, gas fire place, espresso machine and heated bathroom floors. I found the cottages’ best features to be free such as the surrounding ocean views, the constant gentle breeze and the lull of waves while sleeping.
Surfs up Saturday! We took a surf lesson with Rhody Surf in Middleton. Surfing has been on my bucket list for far too long and Mark and I loved it. You haven’t seen the last of me waves. While relaxing at the cottage before dinner we enjoyed a regatta from our window. Wait, what? Yes, spinnakers of all colors were in view because well, it’s Newport and this is how things roll.
We decided to use the Inn’s complementary launch service to dinner in town. From the inn’s dock you can take a scenic boat ride across the harbor to downtown Newport. We “ate” dinner at Tallulah on Thames. Ate is in quotes because that only explains consuming food. To dine at Tullulah is to experience a garden-flavor-explosion-party with your taste buds. Their cauliflower dish is a must.
We were fortunate enough to time our weekend stay with the Newport Flower Show at Rosecliff Mansion which we attended on our way out. The garden displays were beautiful but pretending I was visiting my summer home was the real highlight. Besides, the only way I could get myself to leave Newport was to imagine I would be coming right back.
